All classes at Belles Stage School (BSS) are taught to the syllabus of “The British Association of Teachers of Dancing” (BATD). The BATD is one of the oldest and most respected dance organizations in the country, having been formed in 1892. BSS’s lessons are for students from the age of 2.5 years upwards, including adults. Teacher training is open to those of 16 and over.
Founded in 1995
BSS was founded in 1995, at a local hall in Aveley, Essex, as “Belinda’s School of Dance”. It quickly became very popular locally and from this base “Belles Stage School” was born. In 1997, Belinda moved to Herne Bay, Kent and continued to commute back to Essex to run her school. In 1999 Belles Stage School was founded in Herne Bay and the two schools ran side by side until 2003 when the Essex school was taken over by Miss Cheryl Walsh, who was the first student taught by Belinda to pass the BATD teaching exam. It still successfully operates under it’s new owner.
The intention at BSS is to maintain a high standard of Dance and Drama and to expand into all areas of the Performing Art, at our new studios at the John Wilson Business Park near Whitstable in Kent.
Teamwork and Friendship
BSS in Herne Bay, Kent opened with just 15 students, and now has many times that number; all of them take exams and are successfully progressing up the examination ladder. We believe that to enjoy Dance they must progress and learn better technique and put what they have learned to good use by taking part in shows, promotions and local theatre as often as possible. We also believe that there must be a good, vibrant atmosphere at the School and teamwork and friendship are actively encouraged. In order to let parents participate in their child’s Dance education, we hold regular “Open Days” when it is allowed, by permission of the Principal, for spectators to be present.
If you’re interested in becoming a member of BSS, please complete the form on our contact page and we’ll be in touch as soon as possible.
